SWAYWO (So, What Are You Working On?) is a student-led conference at Stanford Graduate School of Education (GSE) that provides a collaborative space for master’s and doctoral students to present and discuss their research in an informal, supportive environment. Founded in 2014, the conference encourages students to share projects at various stages of development, exchange feedback, and foster a vibrant academic community. SWAYWO offers an excellent opportunity for early-career scholars to gain presentation experience, build professional connections, and explore innovative ideas across a range of educational topics.

The conference brings together researchers working on pressing global educational issues, from educational inequality to technological innovation in teaching. Through keynote speakers, workshops, and panel discussions, SWAYWO helps students sharpen their academic skills and deepen their impact within the education field.

SWAYWO 2026 Keynote Speaker

Keynote Speaker for SWAYWO is Dr. Christine Quince.

Christine Quince, Ph.D. is a proud Detroiter, researcher, teacher educator, and Assistant Professor in the School of Education and Counseling Psychology at Santa Clara University. Her research is dedicated to transforming educational spaces, with a focus on creating meaningful change for Black students and the teachers who serve them. Through three interconnected lines of inquiry, Dr. Quince examines Black students' home and school experiences to understand and uplift their voice and cultural capital. She also explores how to best support and sustain pre-service teachers as they build the cultural competencies and pedagogical tools needed to serve diverse learners. Finally, Dr. Quince works alongside in-service teachers to strengthen and refine their practice, specifically in their day-to-day work with Black students, ensuring that support does not end at certification, but continues throughout their professional journey. Dr. Quince holds a BA in Elementary Education, MA in Educational Studies with a focus on teaching and learning, and PhD in Educational Studies with a focus on teaching and teacher Education, all from the University of Michigan, where she was honored with the university's Diversity, Inclusion, Justice, and Equity Graduate award. Prior to joining SCU, she served as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Berkeley. In order to ensure she keeps a good work-life balance, Dr. Quince enjoys traveling, snorkeling, strength training, and spending time with family and friends.
